Sewing Beginners - St Johns

Discover the essential skills you need to start sewing your own clothes with ease. This beginner-friendly course is perfect for anyone who has never sewn before or would like a refresher. Our experienced tutor will guide you step-by-step through the fundamentals, helping you build confidence as you go.

You will learn:

  • How to operate your sewing machine, including threading and stitching
  • How to measure and cut fabric accurately to reduce wastage
  • Techniques for sewing simple garments
  • How to repurpose old clothes and mend garments

We have only three machines available in class, so please bring your own sewing machine if you have one.

For your first class, please bring fabric, scissors, thread, a tape measure and a bobbin. We’ll discuss sewing fundamentals and any additional materials you’ll need during the first session.

This course takes place at St Johns Church Community Centre, 120 Great South Road, Papatoetoe.
